The Montessori Classroom

The Montessori Classroom is a place of simplicity, beauty, and order. It is uncluttered and conducive to activity and concentration.

Its open shelves offer to a child a range of materials providing him with incentives and opportunities for purposeful movement in key areas of his developmental needs.

The material is arranged sequentially on the shelves, its order providing a framework of security and the possibility, for the child, of repeating activities. The material is generally self-corrective allowing a child to make independent progress, at a pace suited to his abilities and without undue intervention from the teacher.

The material is organised so as to provide a child with the necessary supports in passing from concrete experience to abstract understanding in all curriculum areas.
